go to this website. forum.bodybuilding.com or, bodybuilding.com to start a profile. lots of info. however, in general i’ll tell you that you should eat 40% carbs and protein and 20% fat. eat your fat from sources like peanut howeverter and eat fish oil, flax oil, etc. just start eating more…you can’t put on size otherwise.

Is your dietary supplement contaminated and dangerous?

Question by dave: Is your dietary supplement contaminated and dangerous?
A recent Consumer Reports article stated: “… consumers are easily lulled into believing that supplements can do no harm because they’re ‘natural’,”
“However, some natural ingredients can be hazardous, and on top of that the FDA has repeatedly found hazardous ingredients, including synthetic prescription drugs, in supplements.”
“In May, the Government Accountability Office found that sellers of ginseng, echinacea and other herbal and dietary supplements often tell consumers the pills can cure cancer or replace prescription medications.”
“The organization pointed to 12 supplement ingredients in particular that it said could be dangerous: aconite, bitter orange, chaparral, colloidal silver, coltsfoot, comfrey, country mallow, germanium, greater celandine, kava, lobelia, and yohimbe.”

I’m particularly concerned that the problem appears to be so bad, the FDA has set up an office in China (where it appears that most of these supplements are produced) yet has not inspected any of them!
So, with nobody checking to ensure your supplements are uncontaminated, why do you think they are safe? What confidence do you have that you’re not regularly accumulating poisons and causing more harm than good?
David: I’m not sure that “never had any issues” is very reassuring, though it’s good that you haven’t. Homeopathy has no proven benefits by the way.
dbobo: Wtf? Did you not understand the question?
Nitram: I agree, these greedy multi-billion dollar moneygrabbers should be accountable for their products.
SA/Aristo: Wouldn’t it be polite to let people know they’re taking a risk? You know, just so they can make an informed choice? Or is it more profitable to poison first, make excuses later?
Fake Rhianna (yeah, you wish you were that smart): Your Red Herring Fallacy is of course, invalid.
Wow, you have 4 accounts? Aren’t you just a tad embarrassed?
5? Oh dear……..

i take a multi and a calcium citrate supplement packaged for target stores. i take a brand name glo/chron/ msm supplement for arthritis. never had any issues. the supplement market has a lot of appeal. there are many homeopathic products with proven benefits. sadly, many chinese products have been contaminated thru poor q.c, and simple greed. i would stick with products produced locally; if that,s possible.

Is this a good supplement and workout plan? Should I get anything else?

Question by Hello: Is this a good supplement and workout plan? Should I get anything else?
Ok so i’m 18, weigh 73kg and am going away in a month on holiday so want to become leaner (and hopefully get a much better six pack) whilst maintaining my weight. I go to the gym 5 times a week and will do cardio probably 4 times a week, as well as doing a few ab workouts a week.
The diet and supplement plan I intend to go by is the one on myprotein: http://www.myprotein.com/uk/pages/goals/lean-muscle
As far as the diet goes that should be fine, however looking at the supplements do you think I should buy anything else/not buy some of the recommended supplements? (I personally don’t think protein bars are worth the money)
If someone with a bit of knowledge would be able to help me that’d be great thanks, never really tried to tone up despite gyming for around two years so am relatively new to what needs to be done!
thanks

Supplement suggestions….?

Question by midnight_ashes: Supplement suggestions….?
Te vet has suggested putting my horse on a digestive supplement to lessen the chance of his colic recurring, and also to help prevent his diarhoea from being as frequent (worm damage from before I got him leaves him prone to digestive upsets, though this is his first case of colic). I have used Bailey’s Digest Plus on my other horse and would be happy to use this again (vet says that would be good) – is there anything else I should consider? I have come across a supplement called BlackSalt which looks like it could help…any advice? (UK). Cheers!

if you have found one that you know to be effective & your vet agrees Id stick with that. colic can be a dicey thing to mess with & a lot of changes could increase his digestive upset.

Question by Sp546: Veteran horse – joint supplement?
I have a 24 year old connemara x mare She is in full work and regularly sj xc and hunting. She has never had any problems with her legs or joints apart from being a little light on her rear far side leg however this does not effect her and its been like this for years, the vet said not to worry about it. She also has a tiny bit of laminites in her front hooves however the farrier said that its been there for 5 or 6 years and its nothing to worry about as it doesnt hurt. shes fine at the minute however i was wondering if i shud give her a joint or movement supplement to keep her healthy? If so any recommendations?
She currently gets global herbs airways plus in morning and evening feeds for a slight cough can i feed a joint supplement at the same time?
(UK/Ire)
she currently gets 2kg of spillers senior conditioning mix as keeping weight on over the winter in a challenge (sometimes she just gets spillers cool mix in april/may/june time instead)
and mollichaff showshine and speedibeat over the winter…

Wow, she’s certainly doing great for her age!
It might be a good idea to put her on a supplement to keep her loose and problem free as she has obviously done a fair bit in the past. An old and hard working horse (especially jumping) is common to suffer from stiffness and maybe even a bit of arthritis. A supplement with glucosamine and/or chondritin (think it’s spelt right) will keep them from getting stiff.
There shouldn’t be a problem with mixing joint supplements with respiratory herb supplements however you may want to consult an expert in case.
Good luck with your fab pony

You are unlikely to obtain any benefit from such a supplement. If you are in trouble chat to your GP again, if he still feels that antidepressants are relevant to your problem, there are alternative drug groups. Ultimately if nothing else this management will be cheaper!
